But that is exactly what happened during the Indian Super League (ISL) football tournament this year.

ISL along with Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) and International Premier Tennis League (ITPL), which have all just concluded the second season, offer the Indian sports fan a tempting choice other than cricket. Cracking a second season is no mean feat because the success of the first edition of a tournament is often a product of the hype organisers create around it.

According to Deloitte, the media and entertainment sector has been growing rapidly over the years, with 10 per cent annual growth been recorded within the sector over the past five years.

The report goes on to say that while some segments within the media and entertainment sector have been growing rapidly, others have grown at a comparatively steady pace. The report lists television, advertising, social media, print, film, radio, music, gaming, animation, and OOH as the various sub-segments within the media and entertainment sector.


Facebook Instant Articles: Boon Or Bane For Publishers?

The tool allows publishers to upload articles just the way photos and videos are uploaded on Facebook. But, will it affect the publisher’s website traffic and advertising revenue in the future?
Social networking site Facebook, recently launched the Instant Articles tool for publishers to help them create fast, interactive articles on the platform. Based on a revenue sharing model, the tool which was earlier limited to iOS, has been rolled out on Android devices in India. The move comes in the wake of increased sharing of news articles on mobile apps by users.

PM Narendra Modi hailed the political power of social media

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed the political power of social media, as he visited the headquarters of Facebook in California.

“To leaders all over the world; you are not going to gain by running away from social media,” he said in Hindi during a question-and-answer session.

Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg moderated the hour-long event. Later on Sunday, Mr Modi was welcomed by more than 20,000 people at a stadium in nearby San Jose.
